Best French Mortgage Rate?

Hi, I've searched the threads but can't seem to find anywhere suitable where this may have been covered.

I'm looking to source a French mortgage (from a French bank) and wondered what experiences anyone had with the various banks (e.g. Barclays, UCB etc.). The rate offered seems to be around 'Euribor 3 mois + 1.3%' = 4.8%. Has anyone been able to do better than that?

Thanks in advance, ian.

P.S. If anyone needs any info. on Collioure (where we've just bought) then please let me know.

I work in a property brokerage in Nice. We have a lot of clients looking for French mortgages.

Cheapest rate we have is 3.4% over 15 years, on 80% of value.

Lenders aimed at foreign buyers are more expensive.

I have a mortgage with Barclays in France - annual variable rate Euribor 12 + 1.25% margin. It is for 10 years at 70% of property value.

The first years rate was allowed at 2.8%. The Euribor was 2% at commencement of loan. Mortgage protection assurance is additional to these rates.

Re: Barclays seem to be best

Hi, just got off the phone with a Barclays manager in France and they are offering an offset mortgage for 12 months at 3.9% and then after 12 months for 'euribor + 0.95%', which seems fairly good to me. Just in case anyone else is looking

There are many offers and rates available! Not many people know it is even possible to obtain more than 4 times your salary (just like in uk) and have a maximum duration of 30 years. Also, it's not always about which lender has the lowest rates but more about which lender has the best service and can actually produce an offer!

If you would like some details then please contact me.

Good luck

Sorry for the lateness of my reply; I only check the site (which is great!) every few weeks.

I agree. We have had good service from Barclays in Spain so have decided to go with them too for our French mortgage. It seemed to me that as long as we could prove our earnings and didn't go over the 30% rule (monthly mortgage repayments (globally) v monthly income (before tax)) then they were only too willing to lend. I like the way they do it, ensuring that people are not over-extended.

So, all in all, a really good service from Barclays in Bordeaux.

Hope that helps, iarmst.
