Best digital slr for travelling

Hi,
Does anyone have any opinion on a good all found slr for travelling (and a beginner). I was looking at the sony alpha - does anyone now if they are any good?

You say 'beginner'. Don't take this the wrong way, but spending the bones of €1K on a digital SLR isn't of itself going to give you better pictures. Something like would give you most of the functionality (the 10X zoom is particularly useful) for a fraction of the price, and the print quality will be just fine up to 10"x8" or 10"x12" size.
