best course for a 40 year old insurance official?

I am approx 40 yaers of age working in insurance all my working life.my job is not very secure.I am looking to do a course at night that would be fairly broad based and give me other good opportunities in the event of e being made redundant.I have already done the followingcourses recently.

1.Completed E.C.d.L
2.Have six parts of My A.C.I.I insurance exams.
3.Insurance diploma
4.City Guilds course for the pharmaceutical industry.
5.Qualified as a Q.F.A
Before doing any more courses I would appreciate if anyone could give me advice on the best course to take which be broadly recognised across all sectors like a business degree.

I know its not in your question but has your recent insecurity anything to do with the introduction of PIAB?

Scoil i know that you stated that you would like a degree that is broadly recognizable but i feel that can be many peoples downfall , i would personally opt for a degree which links into a more specific career , Business Degrees are fine in there nature however, at the end of the degree you will be left with the degree itself but then having to choose a career , accounts , computers , law , courses like these result in direct employment in that area after a "specific" degree. However business degree sound good but there practicality is very limited.
I think take out what you do well now and what you enjoy and see if there is a career out there that match's those facets and then look at the required qualifications process and then make a decision.

ACCA Certified Diploma in Accounting & Finance.

Several years ago I completed the ACCA CdipAF. This course is for non accountants only and does not qualify you to practice as an accountant. It is very usefull for professionals like yourself who work with accountants. Marketing, Engineering, IT, HR, Bankers and Insurance People found the course very helpful. The course has a very high standard and the exams are tough. It takes about a year to complete on a part time evening basis. It is availiable through distance learning, private colleges and IT's around the country.

scoil, why do you think your job is insecure. Are you in sales ? Is it becuase you are under pressure ?

If you enjoy selling, there are many many jobs out there that will suit including ones without pressure and that is just within the insurance industry.

What area do you work in ?

Maybe redundancy is on way if you grin and bare it - the financial payoff would soften blow.

If you enjoy insurance work but you do not want to be involved in sales there are plenty of interesting jobs in both life and general and in both insurance companies and brokerages.

Otherwise, if you want to get out, there are plenty of jobs you can do. Trust me you have more qualifications than most do in insurance world. The great thing about insurance employment is that it is a good foundation for any job because of systems, procedures, legislation etc. If you were to apply your skills in a new industry they would really stand to you. Not sure if its of any interest to you but the Insurance Institute of Ireland are in the process of changing their courses/qualifications and October is the cut-off point for sitting your remaining exams for your ACII or else you might find yourself having to do a lot more exams. Registration for exams is probably this month.

Perhaps a call to them might clarify the matter/your exemptions due Insurance Institute of Ireland
