Hi all,
Which bank is offering the best Sterling rate for my Euro today, does anyone know?

It depends on how much you're converting and whether you're dealing in Notes, Cheques, Travellers Cheques etc.

It's not just the rate, but also the commission etc that you need to look at.

Your best bet is to Ring a couple of Branches and ask for a price.

For what it's worth AIB tend to be the best on average, but like I say, you need to check based on what exactly you're doing.

Cheers. I was gonna go in to get about £400 with cash.

If you get a student or OAP to change the cash for you then the bank may waive some of their charges.

For 400 you're not going to notice the difference that may arise from the Rate. You might save a little bit in commission but again we're not talking a fortune.

Every Little Helps I suppose.

or OAP to change the cash for you then the bank may waive some of their charges.

An OAP can be a very handy thing to have around. Between fees wiaved in Banks, and Discount Days in some Hardware/Furniture Stores you can save a pretty Penny.

I wonder why some OAP's dont go into business renting themselves to consumers and splitting the savings 50/50.
Rent-A-Pensioner.com anyone?

The possibilities are almost endless... they could hide people under their coats for the purposes of surreptitious free public transport too for example.

No OAPs available to me, worse luck. Anyway thanks for the replies guys. From reading these boards and bitter experience I like to check things before I get ripped off these days! Thanks again. I'll go to my nearest branch.

exchange discount

when I was a student, members of my family were forever sending me into the bank for their foreign exchange. The people in the bank must have been thinking "poor students my a$$"
Last year, being in full time employment, I went into the bank to get some sterling and handed in my banklink card to withdraw the money to pay for it. The cashier noticed I had a graduate account and waived the fees!
