Hi there has anyone stayed in this hotel and if so can you tell me if its an ok area for San Francisco Trip advisor saying its ok but the last report is Jan 07. We are a party of 10 with 2 kids going to stay here and getting a good price???

Stayed there a couple of years ago and it was fine - good location to explore the city from. Old victorian style hotel with very big rooms - two double beds, ensuite and a small kitchen with fridge and hotplate, great if you have kids. Its located a couple of blocks east of Union Square - no more than a five minutes walk. Area was fine - some edgey streets in the "South of Market" area.

This is a great family friendly Hotel.
Staff are very friendly but, in the American style, there's a strong tipping style required to keep them sweet. Carry a small bundle of low denomination $ notes for coping with the tipping thing.
Good food. Might be advisable to walk in pairs if out for an evening stroll.
Overall a place to be recommended in a city with quite a few iffy hotelries.

Thank you very much for that we are heading in about six weeks times so really looking forward to the trip will keep that in mind about the low notes for tipping thanks again guys much appreciated
