Belgium Grand Prix

Was thinking of booking a weekend away to the Grand Prix in Belgium for my husband. Can get cheap flights into Charleroi in Brussels and the plan then is to hire a car and drive to the race track. My problem is finding accommodation, the Grand Prix seems to be held in a small town and the hotels are already booked. Anybody ever done this trip and any advice on the best place outside of Spa to stay in.

The circuit is about an hour's drive from Brussels - there is a train service but it's not too regular. Best bet is to hire a car and take a book to read during the jams on the way out! Fabulous track but very hilly, take good shoes....

I did this a few years ago as a package through (I think) Stephens Green Travel & it was a good idea because Spa is in the middle of nowhere civilised for us Irish flying in... and they arranged tix, transfers & hotels in Brussels. Slept there & back on the bus to pass the early morning journey & had a thoroughly great trip. Organised Monaco GP myself because it was far more accessible.

It is great to see the Belgian Grand Prix return to the Formula One Calendar in 2007. Set in a woodland park, Spa is a very exciting circuit. Our accommodation is based in Brussels and although the journey time to the Circuit can be long on occasion, it is worthwhile staying here for the beer and nightlife!
This Superb price includes:
  • Direct flights from Dublin to Brussels or Charleroi return.
  • Luxury coach transfers from the airport to your hotel on arrival.
  • 3 nights 4**** hotel accommodation in Brussels with continental buffet breakfast.
  • Luxury coach transfers and entrance tickets to the Qualifying on Saturday.
  • Luxury coach transfers and entrance tickets to the Grand Prix on Sunday.

I went to the GP in Spa in 1989 and we stayed in Liege in Belgium. As far as I remember it was great, nice town centre, we partied all night, met Keke Rosberg, then saw Senna, Mansell and Prost take the honors. It will rain. It always rains in Spa.

I haven't been myself but the general consensus amongst people I know who have been to Grand Prixs (one guy has to been all over the world - a bit of a F1 nut) is that if you are going to a Grand Prix, Belgium is the best choice with the possible exception of Australia (Melbourne) which is slightly further afield...............

When I was in spa, I had a car hired and stayed in Leige. It took about an hour to get back on both evenings, There are low budget hotels Like the ETAP for €40 or there are 2 Formule 1 hotels for about €30 a night, thies are basic, clean, sleep over hotels, they have continental breakfast which you wont need as he will be gone in the morn early,There are some nice friendly pubs and restaurants around town where we got fed well. The campers around Spa seemed to have better night fun. The noise and eau rouge bend standing on its end is what took me.
