Bansko - Bulgaria

Does anyone have any knowledge on investing in ski resorts in Bansko - good or bad?

I would say it is a good long term investment opportunity.

That is my personal opinion only.. I have never been there.

I read Bulgarian (English versions) Newspapers daily and have bought on the coast.

There is a slick marketing push by property 'resellers' so do your research.

Winter Olympics will not be coming in 2014, distances from Gondola are often exaggerated, distances from Sofia shortened,
rental returns widely exaggerated, don't believe capital appreciation projections even though they MIGHT turn out to be correct,
talk of an airport is rubbish - a light plane airport is in 'talks'...

Having said all that I still like to look of BANSKO!!

When the search facility is functioning again, you will be able to find previous discussion on Bansko.

Otherwise just browse for more info.

There may be no planning permission. There is high risk from mafia. Bulgaria scores very high for organised crime and corruption. Rents may be a fable. I would never invest in a wild west country when there is so much other, less risky choice available but plenty of stupid and reckless investors have already done so.

First of all go to Bansko and see for yourself. I was in Bankso and it's the Sunny Beach of the ski resorts i.e. it will suffer the same infrastructure problems as sunny beach and will suffer from over construction. Maybe, it will work out but it's very high risk.

Check out Borovets which is smaller but nicer.

Paddlepuss, I'm assuming that you have visited Bulgaria. Was it really full of cowboys? Is it really the magnet for 'stupid' investors that you say it is or is it really a country with an image problem (much like Romania) which is oft commented upon by those who don't know their posteriors from their elbows?

I recently had a party of 40 people out to Romania for my wedding from Ireland, the UK, the US, Austria, Mexico and Trinidad. Many expressed trepidation when first invited. They all stayed a week and I'd challenge you to talk to any of them and for them to tell you that they were not won over by the place.

Same old story...comment on what you have experienced first hand or, as the Bishop said at the wedding, forever hold your peace.......

Ignorance is much more dangerous than a little knowledge ever will be!

Thanks guys, the viewing trip is only €250, I might go for cheep trip away! The prices are definitely inflated from what I can tell. However, CCG is quite low but there is no double taxation treaty with Ireland.

Oh God, if trip is with estate agent, it won't be a break!!! The feet will be walked off you and you'll have no free time IMO.
