Over four months ago myself and my OH asked our mortgage provider for a copy of all documentation they held on file belonging to us. So far we have received no documentation. We have contacted the bank on numerous occassions to ask what the delay was, and we were told we would have it shortly. A lot of promises but nothing.

The OH is friendly with one of the bank tellers, who told him that the bank have nothing on file for us only the record that we have a mortgage with them. Is this strange or do banks not hold a certain amount of data after a certain given time?

You are entitled to see all personal data they hold on you.

You may have to pay a small fee, no more than €6.35 for such requests.

They are obliged to reply within 40 days, thereafter you can lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commissioner.

It is possible that the bank hold very little information on you if your accounts are up to date and you pay your mortgage on time and have no other loans.

how old is your mortgage? are your repayments up to date?
