Bank holidays and standing orders

A standing order that was to have gone out of my account on Christmas day still has not left my account and the bank is not answering my calls or emails. Today is not a public holiday but Bank of Ireland are telling me that there is no one available to deal with my phone call, yet on their website it says they open till midnight except for public holidays. Do you think this standing order will go out tomorrow first thing or will it be tomorrow night?

Nope I do all my banking online and the 365 contact us button says they only open till 6pm on public holidays which today is not. I did email them earlier in the day and expected a reply but none came and unfortunately was not able to ring until after 6pm. In this day and age it is crazy they still have this BANK Holiday, is this the only one they have throughout the year or is Good Friday also a Bank Holiday as I know it is not a Public Holiday, is there any other one. Did not realise the banks were still so much tied to the church. So does this mean that all standing orders from Thursday, Friday and Today will not be processed until tomorrow?
 
Monday 29th is not a public holiday, it is a banking holiday and all of the banks are closed. I'm an Ulster Bank customer and all of my direct debits and standing orders for the period were forward posted and in effect, left my account on Dec 24th. Not clear when they touched down at the other end thought
 
Wow, did Ulster Bank tell you they were going to do that, that is very good of them. How are people suppose to know that the 2nd day after Christmas banks close. I wish people would stop using the term Bank Holiday for a Public Holiday and Banks should highlight with their customers especially those that have standing orders going out on a Bank Holiday that is not a Public Holiday that their SOs won't be going out. Rabodirect don't classify yesterday as a bank holiday.
 

Banks have always closed the 2nd day after Christmas. I never remember them not doing so. Having said that, their contact centres would have been open. There was also an electronic interbank exchange yesterday so funds may have moved between banks. Whilst the branches may have been closed, there was some activity in the background
 
I would actually call it strange activity with Bank of Ireland. When I logged into the account yesterday I could see some transactions dated the 29th but no S0 but when I log into it today all the transactions dated the 29th have changed to the 30th and the SO has gone out.
 
I remember when banks only closed on Christmas day and St Stephens day, the extra closed day came in probably 25 to 30 years ago. The Post Office also closes the extra day and do not get me started on Government Departments.
 
Government Departments were open yesterday - the blanket closure for the 'privilege day' was abolished a few years ago.
