Bank Holiday Entitlement

Probably a very stupid question but one I am going to ask anyway. I am currently employed on a 3 day week and work Tues, Wed, Thurs of every week. My query is since most bank holidays fall on a Monday a day which I don't work anyway, what if any is my entitlement with regards to bank holidays. Don't have a HR department so would like some information before I approach the boss.

Be careful to distinguish between bank and public holidays - not always the same thing. See the and DETE websites for information on statutory holiday entitlements. Additional entitlements may be covered by the contract of employment. Note that there is no statutory entitlement to a day off in lieu of a public holiday that falls on a non working day (usually the weekend for most people but Monday in your case).

Most employees are entitled to have paid leave on public holidays. One exception is part-time employees who have not worked at least 40 hours in total in the 5 weeks before the public holiday.

Part-time employees who are entitled to public holiday leave, but who are not due to work on that particular day should receive 1/5 (20%) of their weekly pay instead of the actual day's leave.
