Bank Draft Payments

Girlfriend and I just moved out of a small rented apartment. We were expecting our months rent deposit back from landlord i.e 600euro 300 euro each.
However we had a disagreement over wear and tear of the carpet inside the front door. He wanted to withhold all the deposit until he got it cleaned which could be weeks or months. I felt he wasn't entiltled to withhold deposit.

After arguing our case at length he gave us a bank draft for 500 euro despite the fact that we wanted cash (we always paid him in cash)
But some reason I dont trust him.

I went to the bank straight away , lodged bank draft to my account and sure enough it shows up in my 365online.com account.

My question:

Is this money (500 euro) untouchably safe in my account or if this fella has a change of mind can he get his bank to cancel the bank draft at this late stage and get my bank to pay them back leaving us out of pocket.

Why bank draft?

a bank draft is the equivalent of cash! not like a cheque

Except when you lodge a bank draft from a bank into your bank account and they wait 3 days for "clearance". In otherwords they won't pay you any interest on your lodgment until the draft (cash) is cleared.
