Hi,

I opened a joint bank a/c a couple of weeks ago and my wife and myself got PIN no's for the new bankcards the same day. A few days later she got her newr card, there is still no sign of mine. Its over 5 working days now since she got her one, so I rang the bank this morning. They said it is not their problem in a nutshell and to contact the post office which I am currently trying to do. My question is if in the event of the post office being unable to find the letter am I liable to pay any fees that might be accrued due to the issuing of a new card?

I would have thought it was actually not my problem as I never had the card in my possession to loose it in the first place (it was obviously not activated), the last person who had the card in their possession was the bank.

Not your problem and I don't believe the recipient of post can open a case with Anpost... generally its the sender that contacts the PO when post is lost.

My OH got one recently that had been bent down the middle by the postman putting it in the letter box, a quick call to PTSB and a new card was issued and received in a couple of days without any charge.

thanks Joey,
An update: it is Permenant TSB. I took the time (and expense, my own) to ring my local sorting office this morning and they could not locate the card. I rang the bank back this afternoon and they now want €5 for a replacement card. Needless to say I am not happy. I informed the person not to issue a new card as I would be reconsidering moving. I can understand paying €5 if I had received the card, activated it, used it and lost it but it just seems like pants customer service to be treated this way. I closed my previous account in good faith last week. I have contacted my contact in the local branch about this and will keep you updated.

Follow up on the lost card - and ensure you watch out for unauthorised transactions. My credit card has been stolen in the post previously - and the first i knew about it was when the bank fraud section phoned me to tell me that fraudulent transactions had occurred and they had blocked my card (All these transactions were in shops around Grafton St in the run up to Christmas).
