Has anybody used this? I need something to cover an unsightly wire fence that has been put up to keep in a dog. Can it be got in hardwares or garden centres?
 
I'm not too worried once it would even temporarily cover the wire as I have some plants sat and they will eventually cover it.
 
I used it to screen an oil tank while waiting for a climber to grow. It looks fine for a few years but does eventually break down. Good for short term cover though.
 
Thats what I had in mind but seemingly ivy will not attach itself to wire so I have a few clematis plants put down but just at the moment it looks unsightly so it might just be the short term answer.

There is ivy growing up thro a wire fence in my local church. I'd give it a shot. The only problem I foresee is that ivy is a strong plant, so removing it at some point might be troublesome.
 
Yes think I ll give it a go then. I really like ivy and it grows fairly quickly too.
 
Molli I used the bamboo screen for the same purpose, It was only ever a temporary measure but it served its purpose well. I tied it on with gut, Twine would do fine and it stays in place, We also had ivy in a different area and it became too wild, I had a job trying to get it down but got there in the end , We now have clematis.
 
Another option might be to mix an evergreen clematis a slow-growing ivy, and a virginia creeper. It would give you some variety, and the creeper is lovely in the autumn as it changes colour.
 
I love virginia creeper, have some on the wall of my home. At the moment I have an evergreen clematis and 2 montana ones down near the wire so hopefully the bamboo fence will take the awful look off it while they grow. Thanks everybody for your help and suggestions.
