Bad pub grub experience

A friend and I were in a well known pub in town on Friday after work, we had a few pints and then ordered some food. My meal was fine but my friends was a disgrace, he ordered a pesto penne pasta which turned out to be tasteless and contained no pesto!! We complained to the barman who said he would tell the chef, 20 minutes later the barman had still not passed on our complaint, we said it to him again, and he again responded by saying that he would tell the chef... We gave him another 5 minutes but he still hadn't told the chef, we confronted him again said we were leaving because he hadn't passed on the complaint, to this he responded that he was too much of a coward to tell the chef!! What can you do in this situation? I know from the fact that we were sitting at the bar that there were other customers who were unhappy with the food.....
 
I'd send a letter to the manager of the pub. The message needs to get to the chef that there are problems with the food. The manager I am sure would be glad to do this as otherwise they may be losing custom.

TBH, when you were in the pub I would have asked to speak to the chef personally.
 
Yea think I'll write a letter to the manager... We paid for the food on the condition that our complaint would be passed on... If it wasn't such a nice summery evening, the start of the World Cup, I may have complained a bit more but I feel it would have ruined the evening even more....
 
thats the thing i dont understand about this country. We give out about everything but at the end of the day do nothing about it.

I was in a very well known bar/restaurant in Dublin 2 only a few weeks ago and my girl friend ordered a chicken dish from the menu. It came out and it did look really nice. But looks are not everything !! Chicken was pink and very very dangerous. Called member of staff over and pointed the problem out and they offered us a new dish, which was the least they could do but turned down the offer and told them I wouldnt be paying for the meal. They didnt have a problem with that.

I know that this example is different as there were serious health and safety issues here but I think we need to start standing up for our rights and the sooner we do then the sooner bars/restaurants will take notice and change their ways.
 
I agree with you RonanC that we should all complain when necessary, but what annoyed me is the cheek of the barman, we complained to him 3 times but he failed to do anything... He even told the waitress about our complaint in front of us and the 2 of them just had a little chuckle together....
 
Bad move. You should not have paid if the food was not acceptable. Good luck with your complaint but I can't see you getting anywhere to be honest.
 
If you don't receive a reply to the letter why not go back in when you know it will be fairly, but not too busy that you get ignored, and make your complaint again, loudly in front of others

We were in an Italian restaurant in Dublin recently and saw a man walk out without paying after they refused to give him bread with his soup ( the waitress arguing that "Italians don't eat bread!!!) We had mediocre starters but when our main course arrived they had poured Pesto all over our child's maguerita pizza - ( child has nut allergy) and again the arguementative waitress stated it was tradition to put pesto on, our Al Arrabiatta looked and tasted like cheap pasta mixed up with ketchup. We walked out paying only for the bottled water we drank and on our way out warned off some other people glancing over the menu
 
When we receive poor service we should complaine. My sister stayed in a hotel in Donegal for a weekend. At dinner they were servied their starters and then waited up to three quarters of an hour for the main course. She compalined to the manager and he offered a free drink which they accepted but at check out the next morning the so call free drink was on their bill. She refused to pay for it. She wrote a letter of complaint and received a voucher for a free weekend in the hotel. So it does pay to complain.
 
Carvery pub grub is stink. it does not matter if its chicken, pork, beef or bacon it all tastes the same once they add the industrial issue gravy.

So ask them to not put any gravy on the meat?
