Bad Customer Service from the Developer

Hi!

I recently signed contracts for my new house. However, I'm still getting calls from the person at the developer's office asking when the contracts will arrive at their office. I had a call the other day from the same person asking the same question again. I explained that the contracts were signed a week ago and that my solicitor will be sending it asap. My solicitor assured me that everything was fine with their solicitor with regard to the contracts. I asked the person had they contacted their solicitor for an update but she said no. This person's attitude towards me was of a threatening and bullish nature. I feel as a customer I should not have been treated and spoken to in this manner. Has anybody experienced a similiar situation and what's the best approach for making a complaint?

Darrend, welcome to the world of buying houses in Ireland - If poor telephone manners are the only thing you will be complaining about wrt your builder then count yourself among the very lucky few!

Brace yourself for delays in the house being finished, being asked to snag the house when it is blatantly unfinished, appalling standards of work, not a single straight edge used at any stage in construction, shock at the cost of getting any "extras" (which are not extras at all but are necessary because of the useless "standard" fit out) and being generally po'd at the whole process in general!!!

Thats not a rant, its exaclty what happens. I am finally coming to the end of the Saga. Delay after delay after delay, lies. My developer reminds me of "Chemical Ali" in the Iraqi war. Saying all is well in a happy tone, while knowing there were major delays.

I need a drink.
 
And if the property developers weren't bad enough...how about some of the real estate agents (particularly those involved with new developments/new releases)....Don't return calls, ask them five questions in writing and they answer one, deal with people with complete indifference at what they consider to be silly questions...arrghhh don't get me started..

to answer the original question.....if you feel they were rude and aggressive, complain higher up the chain, in writing.....
 
Have a few tough questions about build quality and finishes lined up for when she rings and everytime she does ask her several such questions. She'll put you to the bottom of the list...

As the saying goes "what comes around goes around" I will be the one making some nasty calls when the snagging starts .

I would be careful about making 'nasty calls' to developers/builders when snagging - one of our neighbours got really nasty with the developer and he kept him out of the house for a full year!

The developer was legally allowed to do this - not exactly sure what the reason was. So be careful.
