Backdated Mortgage Interest Relief

Wondering if anyone can advise me about this.

We drew down our mortage in September 07 and applied for mortgage interest relief straight away.

I rang revenue today and they advised that it is being applied from february. Our mortgage is with Permanent TSB. The lady at the revenue advised that PTSB would deduct the payment we were due for january from the outstanding balance of our mortgage.

She wasn't sure about the backpay we're due for Sept-Dec 07 and thought that PTSB might also deduct this from the oustanding balance rather than give us a lump payment back.

Has anyone been in this situation with PTSB and what happened?

I'm in a similar position at the moment.

I started paying my mortgage with PTSB in December. I submitted my TRS1 form online yesterday and spoke to Revenue. They said it will be March before i see the relief as it takes 6-8 weeks but that it will be backdated to the start of the mortgage.

we first drew down our mortgage in march 07 - and have 3 stage payments since then, as we need more money asap we sent off the trs form before xmas and i cant even get through to them on the phone to ask have they received it!!
im hoping they will backdate it to march 07!!

Hi,

this happened with my mortgage with AIB. When it was applied instead of giving me back the 4 months TRS in a lump, it was divided up over the rest of the year ie. got 200e a month TRS, instead of the lump sum and then 133e from then on. hope thats clear!!! The previous tax year was paid in a lump although that took a couple of months longer.

not sure if thats standard?
