Hi to the peeps those helped me along so far.

I'm on loan parent and RA.not working.I wanted to do a full time prenursing course but not possible as i have 2 kids.1 in school,1 not in school.I found an evening course which costs e910 for the year. I know s.w will help with 500e of that from September, but what id like to know is ,is there anyway i could get help with the remaining fee or a grant or something like that ?

Also,can i claim fuel allowance ?

You cannot get Back to Education Allowance, or the 500 Euro cost of education grant that goes with it unless your course is full time! If the course is full time, then usually there is a waiver so you don't have to pay the fee. If there is not, then you can apply to your local VEC or local authority to pay the fees under the Higher Education Grants scheme. You can't get the maintenance payment if you are on BTEA, but you can still get the fees portion - see here for more info http://www.citizensinformation.ie/e...emes_for_students_on_third_level_courses.html First of all you should speak to your course provider and ask if the waiver applies. If it does not, then apply for the fees to be paid, although I think these applications were supposed to be submitted already, but contact them on the number provided and see about putting in a late application.

There is very little financial help out there for part-time courses, outside of the Springboard programme, which won't apply if you are on One Parent Family Payment.

YOu can of course speak to your local office or FAS to see if they would help with the funding of the part-time course, especially if you can demonstrate that the course will lead to a definite job, but even then its hard to secure anything from them in the current climate. Also, any funding that is available is usually earmarked for those on Jobseekers rather than One Parent Family Payment.

If you are on One Parent Family Payment you should get fuel allowance. If the course is full time and you get on to Back to Education Allowance, then your fuel allowance should continue.
