Back home! Jobseekers Allowance?

Hello,

I was working abroad (in the EU) for the last 4 years and have now come home - I am living with the parents until I find somewhere to live in about 6 months time. I have an OK sum of money to live on while I am doing self-study for the next 6 months in my chosen profession, but when I'm finished I want to sign on and then look for a job. Can I do this? Would I be on Jobseekers Allowance and means tested? Do I have to prove I lived abroad or is it the reverse that I am living in Ireland? I still have an Irish bank A/C & statements etc. I have never signed on before, how do I sign on?

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks!

Thanks ClubMan, I did look at that link before, but I didn't read it too well. After reading it twice I think I should be OK. I paid tax while abroad so may be eligible for Jobseekers Benefit. Thanks again!

In order for your contributions in another eu country to be activated for jobseekers benefit you have to have one "a" con paid in Ireland on your return.

To sign on go into your local sw office. Download UP1 form from here and have it completed.

Habitual residence form will also need to be completed.

For Habitual residence you will probably need proof of termination of tenancy in the country you last resided in. P45 or equivalent and also proof that you have closed bank accounts in that country.

I think that has covered most things for you.
