AVG problems

I have run into a problem with AVG as my anti virus software. I have tried to uninstall it but I cannot do this. It wont update either and as a result my computer is vulnerable. What can I do? I have googled to get help but nothing I have downloaded to date has helped.
 
I think that you need to give us some more information. How do you know you have a problem? What OS are you using? (Methinks I am beginning to sound like Clubman - BTW we haven't heard from him recently. Holidays I suppose!!)
 
When I try to run AVG from the desktop I get a message telling me that an unfinished update of AVG has been detected. To finish the ypdate process i need to restart the computer. This has been apearing for weeks now and needless to say the computer has been restarted many times. i cannot move bac or forwards with it. I have tried resetting my computer to a time when it worked but it will not go back beyond April and the problem has not been sorted. i originally installed AVG around Christmas.

The avg icon in my desktop tray says 'email scanner not fully functional'
The icon turns grey when this happens.

This happens regularly - anyone know why?

The sware is up to date. - no new updates available.

If I restart m/c it will be ok.

Any one know of a fix please?

Job done. A completely clean P.C. now thanks to your advice. This has to be the best forum I know
