avg anti virus

I have avg antivirus which is free.
Recently I am getting warnings that I won`t be getting any more free updates from march 18th,and suggesting I subscribe to another avg that will cost about 60 euros.
What should I do?
 
I also have AVG Free but am not getting these warnings.

Are these popup warnings or via email or did you just notice them e.g. within the options?
 
Basically like an avg update pop up.Suggesting I should get 8.5 avg.
 
You're probably using AVG Free 7.5 the support for which is being dropped. Upgrade to the latest AVG Free to continue with free updates.
 
I'm just thinking now that I seem to remember this coming up before.

Try a search - I think it might be that your free vesion is too old but you may not necessarily need to 'buy' a version - you might just need to upgrade to a more recent free version e.g. 8.0 or something.

Yes ,I had the AVG7.5 version
I also got infected by a virus recently and it is in my virus vault trojan horse fakealert hv..it seems to have infected the file relating to avg 8.5and is not healable .
This is all abit confusing. Is this virus safe in the virus vault or is it still doing damage to my computer.A scan has detected no threats.
