I was a member of the civil service pension scheme and contributed to an AVC, administered by Scottish Widows, while I was there.
I am now a teacher. I transferred the main civil service pension to the Teachers Pension Scheme, but the AVC was not transferred - the Teachers scheme does not accept them.
I also have a stakeholder pension with Norwich Union. Is it possible to transfer my AVC to the stakeholder, e.g. because of A-day simplifications?
Why did the teachers scheme not accept the AVC? What reason did they give?
The second part of your question could be directed at the provider that still holds the AVC.
If it is just simply a case of you trying to tidy up your pensions then be careful that you are doing the right thing ie. are you transferring defined benefitsto defined contributions, are you giving up protected rights or guaranteed mimimum pensions?
