Hello,

I have a contributory pension.

I didn't contribute to my pension in 2013.

Can I do an AVC in 2014 and claim tax back for 2013 (since I didn't make any contributions in 2013?).

I want to minimize the tax I paid for 2013.

Called Revenue and they said that it cannot be done but the lady wasn't too sure.

Are you self employed of PAYE?
Are you a member of a occ pension?

If self employed you can make a contribution before the 31st October and set it off against your 2013 tax bill.

If you are a member of a Occ Scheme you can make a contribution before 31 October however you must state that the contribution relates to the 2013 tax year.

If you have a personal pension or PRSA you are too late to make a payment relating to 2013. You cannot retrospective payment.

Revenue giving the wrong advice

Hello,

Thanks for the information. I'm a PAYE worker.

It's amazing that Revenue are giving the wrong information. I asked the lady about this and she consulted three of her colleagues who said I couldn't do it.
