Automatic update of new card details

I have a couple of recurring bills set up to be paid by my credit card. The card expired recently and a new card was issued with a new expiry date and CVV.

I logged in to my phone bill to update the card details and I found that the expiry date had already been changed on the account profile. Another utility bill still had the old details and had to be updated by me.

Has anyone else had a similar experience or do they find it strange that the phone company got the details of the new card directly and without me having to notify them?
 
Thanks Sharkattack, that's interesting, I can appreciate that it saves the receiving company a lot of effort notifying customers when their bills aren't paid.
