Automatic cheque book issue

Is there any way to stop a bank for automatically reissuing a cheque book? I only write 2 or 3 cheques a year and my current book still has 6 cheques left. Yet UB saw fit to send me another 20.

I also only realised today that the stamp duty is now 50 cent a cheque.
 
it's an automatic trigger generated once the bank's system realises you only have a handful left, you can ask to have it turned off and can return the cheque book at your branch and ask for the stamp duty to be refunded
 
Can anyone apply for a cheque book once they're over 18???
 
You can apply. Sure. No guarantee you will get one.

Also many banks do not issue chequebooks.
