My cars will hit 120K Km soon. A timing belt change and standard service are then due. Normally I would book it into the same Audi people I bought the car from and serviced it with these last 4 years. I believe the whole job will cost me in the region of 1000 euro. Is it reasonable to assume the same job can be done much cheaper in Northen Ireland? I am in Co. Louth and can be in Newry in 35 minutes.
And before anyone asks I haven't rang anyone up there yet. Just looking for opinions.

OK may I re-phrase the question...I know I am on thin ice here re the posting guidelines so excuse me. Is there any good reason why anybody in the ROI who lives within say 30 minutes of NI should not go there to get anything at all done with their cars on price grounds?

I don't know specifically about car servicing in NI - but tyres, pads etc are all cheaper and labour cost should be too - so I see no reason why you shouldn't get a good deal.

Would you consider an independent or even nixer mechanic more locally?

If nothing else the Vat is less.

If parts are cheaper then it would be worth getting a qoute.

This is a standard job so they should be able to give a pretty good idea on parts and labour.

Gebbel, I've heard good things about George Walsh motors - I think he's an independent but Audi specialist.

Based in Belfast however - maybe it's too far? Only an extra 40 mins or so from Newry though.

(no connection BTW)

Great stuff I will check him out. Thanks!

Isaac Agnew Group is the main Audi dealers in the north 2 branches one in Belfast and the other in Portadown. Just heard from a mate that he is taking his Renault north for work quoted 640 Euros and getting it done up there for 245 sterling!
