Does anyone know what the 1.9tdi Sportbacks are like?

I guess primarily froma driving perspective.A friend is considering one but they seem to be an extra 4-5k more than the golf tdi, have to wonder if its worth it. Economy wise the from what i read MPG is broadly similar. In saying that the A3 5 door ones do appear to have more of a presence on the road than the golfs. I sometimes mix up the new golfs and polos as they are so similar. Thanks.
