My Audi A4 has for 2nd time in 5 days showed Safe on dashboard display and 1st time car would not start. It is a post button ignition and 1st time it happened it then started 40 minutes later. Happened again outside my house and sdisplays Safe on dashboard.
Looked on Google but found nothing that worked, anyone experience with this?
Radio works so think battery must be fine and had just driven 40km home then needed ti head out 20 minutes later and won't start. Also displays move steering wheel and wheel moves freely so lost for ideas

Could still be a discharged, elderly battery causing this especially in cold weather. Or a key/immobiliser issue.

Do you have a multimeter you could check the battery voltage with? A fully charged battery should read between 12.2-12.7 volts, 11.9 and below is a flat/dead battery.

If the battery is flat this video might help?

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for 10mins plus and seeing does that help reset things?

Will check battery tomorrow with a Multimeter to see what charge it showing, will try your idea to disconnect , tks

Does your car require Adblue and if so what level is it at?

Maybe it's low in power steering fluid or a sensor gone somewhere in the steering system. Or maybe a broken wire somewhere, possibly in the steering wheel.

Try this:

1. Disconnect battery leads from battery & connect battery leads to each other with a jumper cable. This discharges any residual charge. Wait 10 minutes or so.
2. Reconnect the battery properly, place key in ignition, & initiate reprogramming sequence.
3. Sequence = turn key to "ON" only, NOT "START". Wait 10 seconds. Turn back to "OFF" Repeat 5 times.

12.37 in on the low side, general guide is under 12.4V requires a charge. How old is the battery?
