Attic Conversion where roof held up by timber struts?

Is it possible to do an attic conversion where the roof is supported by loads of timber struts - that is going from floor to ceiling all over the roof space, currently there is another pitched roof shaped timber structure inside the roof holding it up presumably. So in order to create floor space it looks like the roof would need to be supported some other way. Would this be a big job?
 
sounds a lot like my attic. when we purchased it(new house) the sales girl made a point of srtessing that the attic did not lend itself to conversion. she said if we got it done that it would be a huge job.
