ATM/Laser stamp duty

Have a joint atm/laser with TSB and also an atm card for same account. Have been hit with €20 stamp duty on laser/atm card, dont like it but fair enough. Have also been charged €10 for the seperate atm card which while it works in atm obviously is of no benefit to someone with an atm/laser card also. Why do TSB issue the two cards? should stamp duty only be taken once for the atm aspect of account - taking it twice seems pretty unfair.

If you have a Laser/Atm card why not get rid of the standalone ATM Card?

Getting rid of 2nd card

Would plan too, pity I seem to have left it too late. Can't see why bank issue the two cards in the first case though

Re: Getting rid of 2nd card

I got an ATM card from BOfI when I asked about Laser they told me I couldn't have it because I wasn't paying my wages into the account.

Hey Presto a few weeks later, I ask about getting Laser and I'm told it's not a problem. You don't need to get your wages paid into the account.

Resulting in the same situation as yourself an ATM Card and a separate Laser/ATM Card. I wonder if I don't tell them that I've destroyed the ATM card will I get double stamp duty. I should check that out.

unused?

Have you used both cards during the year March-April? The stamp duty is only due on atm cards or laser cards that have been used during the year, unlike credit cards.

Used

Unfortunately I used both my cards - changed pins so they were the same and used whichever card I found in the wallet first on at least one occassion. will get it sorted before next year but guess I'll have to take the hit this time round

Charges on Laser

So can I ask a few basics?

There is stamp duty on ATM/Laser of €20 p/a? (I have a combined card).

There is stamp duty on a c.card of €40 p/a?

Is there a basic charge for every time you use you laser card?

Re: Charges on Laser

There is stamp duty on ATM/Laser of €20 p/a? (I have a combined card).Yes. If you have and ATM card the charge is €10.

There is stamp duty on a c.card of €40 p/a?Yes. Ulster Bank refund the stamp duty on their 'Zinc' card.

Is there a basic charge for every time you use you laser card?
Yes, unless you have an account where you pay a flat fee or are entitled to free banking. Generally the fee is €0.13 per transaction.

One other question

Hi

On the 4th of this month I paid €40 stamp duty on our combined ATM/Laser cards for our current account.

Today I was charged €6.35 by the bank for the renewal of our cards. They are out of date at the end of this month. I'm told that this is also a govt charge. We have an Ulster Bank U First account for which we pay €9 per month for which is to cover all fees except govt charges. (it's worth our while as we get .05% discount on our new and large mortgage).

Can anybody tell me if this is a govt charge, I looked up revenue.ie but could not find it.

charge

Nope that is an Ulster Bank specific charge. Another of the many reasons that I moved to NIB.
Have a look at their charges booklet. I think they replace cards every 2 years at a cost of 6.35.

We have a joint current a/c with one laser card. We are thinking of getting another laser card, will be be hit for Government tax twice? We also have a joint credit card a/c with a 3rd additional cardholder, however, we only pay one government tax of e40.
Why is this?

margaret1: you will be hit for the tax on the second laser card. Why hit twice on laser but not the Credit Card? It's just arbitrary. It is an entirely nonsensical situation to penalise people for using electronic cards instead of cash when cash vans are being knocked off all over the place. Of course this was dreamed up by the same people who spent over €50 million on electronic voting.
