Have been browsing the delta site for flights from Atlanta to Dublin, some of which stop in Shannon for 1 hr 30 mins.

Does anyone know whether you have to sepnd this length on the plane on the tarmac or is it possible to get into the terminal, stretch the legs, etc.

You can disembark most flights which stop at Shannon. AFAIK in some cases, you clear US Immigration in Shannon, even if you come from Dublin.

Thanks JR

The flight to Atlanta is direct but the one coming back stops at Shannon so US immigration won't be an issue.

Is one obliged to disembark at Shannon or is it an option?

Thanks

Recently travelled to Atlanta with Delta. On the way out we did have to stopover in Shannon, you do have to disembark and bring all your hand luggage with you. Word of warning, phone Delta and confirm flights a few days before you travel. I booked and paid for flights via Delta website in December, arrived at Dublin airport in February and was told "that flight was cancelled weeks ago". They re-booked me for the next day. Same thing happened on way home - ended up flying via Paris! Have applied for that EU compensation from them but no word yet!

If your flight is via Shannon on the outward leg you have to disembark the aircraft and clear US immigration - on incoming flights you stay on board at Shannon. The outward stop is usually around 1hr 15mins and the return stop usually less than 1 hour.
