My new house is 99% finished, the snag list was carried out on friday by my engineer and it has the usual few items. I am going to give it to the builder tomorrow, hoefully so he can have them cleared this week.
Would I be asking too much to have the key to the house this week?
I would like to have the key for the bank holiday weekend so I can start painting.
You are entitled to the keys and to vacant possession as soon as you have paid for the house. If you have not paid for the house, you are not entitled to the keys although some builders will let you have them. The risk for any vendor/builder in handing over keys before payment is that the money will not be paid while the purchaser is enjoying the use of the property.
we got lucky as hell, builder gave us keys and let us tile 4 months before slae went through, we were tiling ourselves so most of it was done before we moved in, wooden floors and painting as well..
