Last year we had a few of those little badges you get at conferences or going into offices where they make you sign in at the desk. It worked reasonably well.

Plan was - the first few people in would go looking for people (moderators) wearing AAM badges and get talking, and then after a while new people would be able to spot the large group of people, or else spot the AAM badges in the middle of the large group of people.

At the same time, the moderators (and assembled AAMers) keep an eye out for people looking like they are searching for a group of people they have never met before. Leaves itself open to all sorts of possibilities . . .

Would love to go, but how would I recognise any of you?

Sounds kinda interesting. How many are going? 8pm is kinda early though. What time do you plan the do to go onto. The venue is a bit out of the way, does anyone know what public transport one would get from St Stephens Green.

You'd probably be best walking from Stephens green - walk up Merrion row onto baggot street and turn left just before the canal. 2 bridges down on the far side of the canal is the Schoolhouse i.e Lower Mount street bridge. If getting a bus from town the number 7 or 45 go right by it. [broken link removed] map shows you Merrion ro and baggot street side and the walk to the canal I mention.

25th November? Ooh, that's the day we're closing on the purchase of our house!

Seems like AAM have been part of the whole purchase, so I guess we should try to drop by to celebrate :)

I have updated the attendance list on the first post in this thread.

and why didn't ya include poor old Garfieldus in the list? Not only that but you left me out too :(

If I do decide to make it I won't get there till about 10pm cause I do a workout on Friday. Would this be considered too late? How would I recognise you all?

I'm not going unless Clubman goes.

I have applied for outline planning permission with Mrs Purple for the night off and my application is being looked upon in a favourable light. A brown envelope may have to change hands to seal the deal...

At the pub:

Ms X: "Drinks are expensive here aren't they?"

Reply: "You had a choice. No-one forced you to come here and pay these prices. Live with it, it's not a rip-off. In any event, on a cost benefit analysis I reckon that the benefits accruing by being here outweigh the high prices"

Ms X: "Oh, ok...Anyway, I would have been here earlier but I stopped off in PCWorld looking for a modem for my computer but they had none"

Reply: "For what it's worth, Maplin have some special offers on modems at the moment"

Ms X: "No, they stopped selling them last week"

Reply: "Ok, I stand corrected."

Ms X: "There's quite a lot of tossers here tonight aren't there?"

Reply: "Care to back those wildly speculative generalisations up with some facts?"

Ms X: "No. I was speculating as to whether anyone else might turn up tonight"

Reply: "Why? Speculation is, by definition, not factual."

Ms X: "Forget I said anything."

Reply: "Why, I never said that people could not discuss this matter. I merely asked why you or anybody else would see any point in speculating".

Moderator: "I'm closing this conversation".

I wish he was going too!
