ASBOS.. Worth the paper they are written on??

About a year and a half ago or more I started a thread on here about anti social behaviour in my estate. To cut a long story short, this week 3 of the culprits have had an asbo placed on them. I am led to believe that these are a verbal warning and after 3 strikes the youngster involved will be brought to court. My question is are they worth anything, and are they enforced. Has anyone any experience of same?? They come after 3 long years of intimidating and threatening behaviour from youngsters and now that we've taken a stand and made statements i'd be disgusted to find out that they asbo means nothing.

I don't know if it's true, but I've heard ASBOs are almost a status symbol among youths in some areas.
