What gave you that idea? Have you checked out the house? I know the houses in the estate and have not seen this. Either way if you are planning on purchasing I would advise getting a survey.
Sounds strange. Weren't those houses built in the 70s? In light of this can't imagine asbestos being used in the ceilings but as MAJJ says best to get a survey done.
