Hi, is anyone familiar with artist exemption - specifically script writing. Does a film / tv project have to be produced / completed for the exemption to apply?

Thanks JPD - much appreciated.
Thanks, have done. Just needed clarity on this area as it differs between disciplines. For example, exemption for a book requires it to be published. You must apply to revenue to be registered on the artist exemption scheme. You can get an application form on the website. The as a registered artist your qualifying income is tax exempt.

Screenwriters often get paid for work (or parts of work) that aren't ultimately produced. How would you have income if it wasn't published.
Screenwriters get advances etc?

I was hoping it might, just as writing books etc would qualify. But I guess journalists who wrote don't get it. I guess I'll just ask themI doubt it, unless it maybe has some obvious and specific artistic/cultural merit, but you'd probably have to ask Revenue to be sure:
Artists' Exemption
Income you earn from the sale of your artistic works may be exempt from Irish Income Tax in certain circumstances.www.revenue.ie
Absolutely not. It must be a completed body of work that has cultural merit, not just any old rambling (no offence).Didn't want to start a new thread - I write a blog from which I earn a small sum from subscribers. Would this qualify for artist's exemption?
As it should be, mustang, was chancing my armAbsolutely not. It must be a completed body of work that has cultural merit, not just any old rambling (no offence).
