Typical. My boyfs parents said they'd give us €5,000 extra for a house we really liked (allowing us to go up to €355 - the absolute max), but only told us this morning after we had put in what we had said was our final bid. We were outbid and I repeated the same.

THEN his parents piped up, I called again, and, with much credit due to the estate agent (even though I wanted to strangle her) she said that the vendor had just accepted the bit of €353 and she had told the buyer and so couldn't accept my bid.

Why did I have to get a decent EA?????

Sorry - just venting! I actually do think she did the right thing, but I suppose we all want the rules bent to suit us (and there's no saying that the buyers wouldn't have topped our bid again anyway).

You should have a word with the boyfriend's parents. That's obviously unacceptable!

I'm sure the eventual buyer of the property will think that they were decent in not gazumping them.

Lucky you! If you don't mind me asking - Does "€5000 extra" mean they have already given you a contribution?

They have been incredibly good - they apparently put €5000 by for each of their children years ago just for this purpose...

Also, I wouldn't have dreamed of gazumping someone. It was just the time issue (5 mins) that upset me. Mind, it was a Sherry Fitz EA and I wouldn't hesitate to buy with them now as I would be very confident that they wouldn't gazump me in turn. (Hope it's ok to mention the name)
