Are we crazy to go to south of France in August?

We are thinking of doing a house exchange near Toulon in south of France first 2 weeks of August. We are concerned that 1. it may be too hot to get out and about much and 2. it might be packed with holiday makers like ourselves...............However, it is a good offer ...............anybody any advice to offer?

According to this website: http://www.weatherbase.com/weather/weather.php3?s=6670&refer=&units=metric average temperature in Toulon is only 23 degrees in august or on hot days 28 degrees, so probably quite bearable.

No idea on how busy it may be - but wouldn't most tourist places be busy in August.

At the risk of sounding smart, the south of France is a big place. In general sea side areas will be very busy, but as little as 5-10 miles inland can be peaceful. If you're doing any driving, you'll need to check when the main holidays are as the motorways will turn in to car parks those weekends.
