Are there any Bring Centres for old newspapers?

Hi all

Unusual problem, my brother moved into a rented house in Galway only to discover the garden shed had a stack of old newspapers about 8 ft high. Is there anywhere he can bring them (to dispose of them legally!) rather than incurring the pay by weight cost?

Don't know about Galway, but in Dublin the various councils operate bring sites where you can bring pretty much anything. I know the one in Dublin 1 has a huge bin thing for all paper-based materials.

Probably best to check with Galway UDC or whatever is the name of the local authority there.

For Dublin see [broken link removed]. Not sure if there's an equivalent site for Galway or other cities/towns. I guess the local authority might be the place to check?

Here are the Galway city ones but it doesn't look there are centres for newspapers [broken link removed].
However in Galway County [broken link removed] "Galway County Council operates Recycling Centres at Tuam, Clifden and Ballinasloe (in conjunction with Ballinasloe Town Council). Various recyclables are accepted from the domestic sector at these sites including newspaper, cardboard, plastics (pet, hdpe, pp and ps only) as well as large items such as fridges/freezers free of charge and other white goods at a cost of €5. Other items accepted include household hazardous items such as paint, batteries, fluorescent tubes, weed killers and waste medicine."

Are you Galway City or county? The re-cycle blue bin in Galway county - Bearna waste - will take newspapers and all the contents of that bin go to the Carrowbrown recycling centre where they are seperated and sent on to other facilities. Probably similar in town, check it out with your bin-men.
