are REVENUE query1 forms random or planned?

I received a Q1 form from Revenue asking for details about my money life for period 2007 to date.
my question, are these queries random (like jury service, name just picked out) or are they taking a look at my file for some specific reason?

I have been paying taxes and a PAYE person for years but i did a small bit of freelance work which amounted to about 1500k over 2 years which wasn't declared.

Also i received an out of court settlement for a work bullying case which the two legal teams had paid to me in a tax-efficient way and according to tax laws.

any thoughts?

Was that 15K or 150K

Just answer the questions.

it was 1500.00 euros over the 2 year period.

These query forms really appear to be random. The fact that you had a small amount of income that you didnt declare would not have brought you to the attention of the Revenue unless someone reported you! I wouldnt worry too much about it, just fill out the form to the best of your ability and you will be fine. Theres bigger fish out there that they are looking for believe me!

Based on a few recent posts regarding delays in refunds and demands for small amounts of tax, even tax sprats seem fair game these days.
