I am re-mortgaging my existing but-to-let properties to raise more money to buy more properties. In effect, I am selling my houses to myself. Can I claim as tax deductible the original purchase costs such as valuation and solicitors fees etc?
As far as I know pre-letting expenses are not allowable against rental income but such costs can be set against CGT on disposal. I am not a tax expert however so you should clear matters with your accountant.
