Are Dr Martens Mens Shoe Sizes Larger Than 'Normal'?

I was thinking of buying my fella a pair of doctor martens casual shoes, I noticed the type he is looking for on a website.

Has anyone here ever worn Dr Martens shoes (especially mens shoes)? If you have did your regular size fit, or did you get a slightly smaller size than normal?

I wouldn't bank on buying the right size of DMs or any other footwear without trying them on. I have worn DMs for years and have, at different times, found that size 8, 9 or 10 fit perfectly. And I stopped growing a long time ago now! :)
