I have received a letter from my local authority to tell me that they plan to designate my street as an architectural conservation area. My house is already listed and I don't understand what implications this initiation designation will have for me? Will it make it impossible to get planning permission for any changes to the house? Can someone explain?
The new ACA designation won’t make it any more difficult for you to obtain planning permission in the future than your house being a protected structure already. Irrespective of whether a demise is protected or not the ACA will mean that people won’t be to alter the appearance of any external feature along the street w/o pp.
I only know this because my OH is an Architect and am constantly hearing him bang on about his clients with protected houses & them not realising that they can’t even change a light switch w/o pp.
