architects advice?

when getting our plans drawn up i asked for a u shaped stairs. (2 landings basically). when the plans came through i didnt take much notice (we were both new to this). But we have a straight stairs (large landing upstairs)
So met with the carpenter last nite and he says there is no way we can change it as it will disturb the whole lay out to the downstairs?
Can anyone tell me if this is true or not? foundations are down at this stage.

Everything is possible (usually!)

Depends really on your layout downstairs. Realistically it should only effect your hallway downstairs.

If you have an electronic version of the plans you can email them to me and i'll have a look.
