apt damaged due to leakage from roof - Re-couping structural engineer's costs

My apartment was damaged due to water leaking in from the roof.

The builder eventually repaired the damage but I had to get a structural engineer to advise me as the builder was giving me the run around with all sorts of incorrect explanations as to what was causing the problem.

I have paid the structural engineer 1,500 euro.

Is there any way I can get this money back. Can I claim against the block policy?

Is there any point in sending the bill to the builder?

Has anyone been in a similar situation and got their money back?

Re: Apartment damage - Re-couping costs

Elizabeth, that should definitely be covered by the block policy, I wish you hadn't paid the money directly I would have tried to get the Mgt Co to look after it directly, is the Mgt Co still in the hands of the builder (sounds a bit like it from your post) . In any case, if the builder is still on site then he should be taking complete care of that, if trfr has occurred to the Mgt Co the block policy / sinking fund should cover it

Thank you. That's very helpful. I will send my receipts to the Management Company as you suggested and ask them to deal with it. I think the Management Company is still in the hands of the builder as there are a number of apartments still unsold and the builder has staff on site. It would be great to get the money back. Many thanks for your advice again.

Beware the likelihood of a massive excess on a block policy. Ours is €800. Don't count on getting all your money back.
