I am getting a 14-16lb hen turkey this Xmas as I have to cook for a crowd:(

Turkey prices are up about 20% according to butcher due to increase in grain prices, etc.

I ask what the approx cost is per kg (ie 2.2lbs) and it is 12 euros.

First time having to cook turkey so just wondering if that is a reasonable price as I would have no clue.....

87euro for a 16lb turkey is very expensive.
I dont know your butcher, or exactlyu what they sell, so I dont know if you will be getting a quality free-range, good breed of turkey worth the extra, or over-paying for something that you will get for a lot less elsewhere.

Can you ask around locally for recommendations and price turkeys in a few places before deciding where to buy ?

Just ordered mine yesterday from local butcher. 12lb free range (not organic) turkey will be about 45euro he says.

Paid 42 Euro for a 14lb turkey and 42 Euro for a whole ham boned and rolled, all from my local butcher!

Most supermarkets sold them off at half price on Christmas Eve. We only wanted the taste this year and picked up one for 5 to 6 people for €12 in Tesco.

In the end it seems I was misinformed as I was charged 54 euro for a 17lb Hen Turkey which fed the 11 people I had in the house on Xmas Day with plenty of leftovers:)
