Approaching the County Council to sell your house to them

I own a property in a medium sized town which I wish to sell. Do the County Councils actively purchase properties within towns?
 
I wrote to my local council some years ago offering to sell them a residential property that I have.

They wrote back to say that while they weren't interested at that time they might be at some point in the future.

Cant hurt to ask
 
Interesting. Might be something I will do. No harm to make them aware that the house is available.

Clearly by the article, if I was well connected, I would command a higher selling price!
