Do you think there's any point in someone applying for a job when they don't have the qualifications listed in the job ad. they have been doing a similar job for a long time & have a lot of experience but do you think that employers immediately rule out applicants who don't have the piece of paper to prove their capabilities. Thanks.

+1 Diziet. Job descriptions can be "aspirational" (I say that in quotes because sometimes the people having the aspirations aren't the people who do the hiring).

If you have relevant experience, absolutely apply for it. Nothing ventured...

In some areas, if you don't meet the requirements in the advertisement, then you are screened out immediately. That is particularly applicable to jobs funded out of the public purse. It is possible for a disappointed applicant to cause great trouble if somebody who did not satisfy the stated criteria gets the job.

In many other situations, the number of applicants might be so large that strict application of criteria is the first step to getting the number of applicants down to a manageable number.

But it's probably worth giving it a shot. Just don't get your hopes up too high.
