Applied for job and worried that ID provided may be used for scam?

Sorry for posting in a wrong section but this is the only section I can actually create a thread.

I have applied for several Personal assistant jobs. One person contacted me via email, introduced himself, he's from USA, he even sent a scanned picture of his passport, in order to show "who I am be going to be working for" and he required to send my scanned copy of ID. I don't know what happened at the time but I did, probably I trust people too much, now I started wondering, he has my scanned copy of ID, could he do any criminal activities with it?

What should I do? Contact my embassy, tell them that "I lost my ID" so it will no longer function? Or something. I am really worried. Maybe I should not?

It's a great way of harvesting legitimate passports (including the one he used as his own ID)

Mossad are getting very creative these days.

Report the document lost or stolen and seek a new one. That way you are letting the system know that it is no longer valid.
