Sim free or "Factory unlocked " iPhones are sold in ..AUS , BELG , NZ ,GRE .

Basically laws in those countries prohibit carriers locking handsets to a specific network .

If you have a friend in any of these countries then get them to purchase one for you ...slap your sim in (regardless of network) and away you go .
Tell em to mark its as a gift so Mr Customs dont get his 2 pieces of silver

One concern: If you need to call on the warranty within its 12months , you will need to send the phone to the Apple repairs of the country purchased in .

Another option which may happen in the near future is that AT&T (USA) are rumored to start selling sim free 3GS in the near future , my bet is not til the new iPhone 4G is released June / July .
