We are living in an old but renovated house - all fine except for one room, where anything that is left on the floor smells of damp - can this be resolved? Thanks.

I'm not an expert but I suggest not leaving anything on the floor.

This could be an unresolved plumbing leak or an absent or failed damp proof membrane in the floor. You would need a moisture meter to help determine what's at fault. Often times in such a situation the only definitive way to establish the cause may be to carry out opening up works. Either way there would be some substantial builder's work involved to replace a defective floor slab.
